UNDER THE VOLCANO ANNOUNCES 2026 RESIDENCY FOR WRITERS & JOURNALISTS
The door is open for applications for the 24th season of master classes in Tepoztlán, Mexico, a legendary village in the foothills of the great volcanos, an hour south of Mexico City.
Since 2003, Under The Volcano has been bringing together poets, fiction writers, writers of witness and investigative journalists from across the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds.
Open to accomplished writers, both published and emerging, this two-week annual residency is an incubator of talent and a catalyst for works in progress that aims to take each participant’s voice to the next level.
With intimate, selective master classes led by master writers, Under the Volcano is a unique community that transcends the borders between languages, nationalities, genres and place.
Their award-winning core faculty for January 2026 includes novelists Aysegül Savas, Sheree Renée Thomas, Alberto Chimal , Jennifer Clement and Socorro Venegas, poets Paul Muldoon, Ben Clark and Keetje Kuipers, and journalists Ignacio Rodríguez and Alfredo Corchado. Confirmed guest presenters include Texas poet laureate Cyrus Cassells, novelist Guadalupe Nettel, and AP’s Garance Burke.
